PILOT SIGNALS FOE THE WEST COAST.
1. Ball and red flag at mast-hoad—High water, tako the bar. 2. Ball and bluo Hag half-mast.—Half-flood, wait for tide ; when the bar may safely be attempted at hull-Hood, the red Hug will bo at mast-head. 3. Ball upon lowor-nmst cap with white Hag—Ebb tide bar dangerous. 4. No signal—Do not attempt to tako tlio bar. 5. Arm pointing to the right hand entering from seaward—More to the south. 0. Arm pointing to tho left hand ontoring from soaward—More to tho no.t'i. 7. Arm up and down with signal mast—As you go. 8. Whon moro than one vessel is crossing the bar tho foremost vessel will lie piloted by tho signals, tho others following in her wake. On vossols arriving off tho bar, they are roquestod to hoist thoir draft of water by Mavryatt's signuls at tho fore. A red light will be hoisted on the signal mast at night. On a moveable pole, in front of the signal mast, will bo shown, if necessary, the set of tho currcnt on tho bar thus' A" red and white pendant, to tho northward; a square yellow flag, to tho southward.
