Rumours have obtained currency of certain " irregularities " in the Savings Bank Department, General Post-office. Forgeries and frauds of an extensive nature hate, it is said been committed, and an officer of justice and witnesses hare taken their departure from the General Post-office for Australia, armed wilh the necessary proofs of the commission of the several alleged crimes, in the event of the suspected individual being met with and identified. Mr. Spurgeon, who has forbidden the word reverend to be prefixed to his name, is said to be becoming more eccentric every day. He is giving a series of lectures, in the course of which he actually appeared with a japan candle-box in his hand, which he announced to be his text. The tenor of the discourse may be guessed, for the peroration consisted of a rapturous allusion to a chandelier hanging above him, in which were burning various coloured, lights, which he said typified the effulgence of the elect.
