SHIPPING NEWS FOR THE MONTH

PORT OF LYTTELTON. AEEIVAL OF THE EVENING STAB, Captain Thos. Clibborn Montano, from London. This ship came to lior anchorage at 9 o'clock on the 13th April, after a run of 102 days. In the chops of the Channel she experienced severe weather, and had her jolly-boat carried away. She crossed the Line 4th Feb., being 22 days out, and had a very fair passage during the remainder of the voyage, making the Snares about the 9th April. On the 19th January, passed the brig Wyke Regis, abandoned, in lat. 42deg. 20min., long. 14deg. Bmin. west; the vessel had her foresail loose, fore-topsail ahead, sails furled, main-top gone, and a boat across the main hatch. On February 9, boarded the ship Mary Shepherd, with emigrants for Adelaide. Soon afterwards the Butch ship Southampton, in lat. 30deg. 50min., long. 27deg. 45min. west. On the 10th April spoke the brig Remark, bound to Wellington from Otago. The Evening Star brought 12 cabin passengers and 61 steerage, chiefly of the agricultural class. Her cargo consisted of general merchandise. The passengers spoke in high terms of the ship, captain, and officers, and presented them with written testimonials.

AEEIVAL OF THE SHIP HUNTRESS, Captain Barrow, from London. This emigrant ship came into port oh Tuesday evening, the 21st April, after a protracted voyage of 128 days. She experienced very heavy weather in the Channel, and was 60 days making the Line. At the Cape she again met contrary winds, and during a heavy gale sprung her foremast, losing top-gallant-mast and gear. After leaving the Cape she enjoyed favorable winds, making the New Zealand coast in 32 days. Attempted to go into Timaru, but a heavy south-easter coming on, had much difficulty in beating oif shore, and she brought all her passengers to Lyttelton. The Huntress had 30 cabin passengers and 278 Government immigrants. Two births occurred on the voyage and 15 deaths, all children, with the exception of one young woman aged 17, and a boy belonging to the ship. DEFABTtrBE OF THE SHALIMAB, Captain Allen, for London. The Shalimar sailed on Thursday, April 16, with about 20 passengers, who were chiefly old settlers who have gone to pay visit to the home country.
