SIR GEORGE GREY.

The Wellington papers are not very clear about Sir George Grey's movements. All that we can gather from them is that he proposes to visit the Southern Provinces and as some mention is made of taking a trip up

the West Coast on the way back, it must be presumed that lyttelton will be the next port of call. In that case His Excellency will probably arrive here on Friday. We subjoin the following extracts relating to the matter from the Wellington papers :— Sir George Grey very unexpectedly arrived here on Monday evening in H.M.S.S. Harrier, on his way from Hawkes Bay to Otago. His principal object is to obtain his London despatches, those by the December mail not having reached him, owing to the accident of the P. and 0. Co.'s steamer, as well as those by the February mail. His Excellency's visit will last until the arrival of the Airedale from Auckland, about the 14th, when, intercepting his dispatches addressed to Otago, he will shortly afterwards proceed thither. It is thought probable that Sir George will take a trip up the West Coast. — Independent, April 9. It is said to be Sir G. Grey's intention afterwards to visit the Southern Provinces, and to return to Wellington previous to the opening of the Session of the General Assembly.— Spectator, April 7. We have heard that it is his Excellency's intention to remain at Wellington until the arrival of the Auckland mail, when he will proceed on a tour to the Southern Provinces.— Advertiser, April 7.
