When I was requested the day before yesterday to come forward for election, I consented after having it pointed out to me that there was no one else to fill the place. Since then, however, Mr. Bowler has come forward to solicit your suffrages, and I then immediately retired from the field, knowing full well that he was more competent than myself, and that he had more time at his disposal.
