The south-westerly breeze of Saturday last released a number of our coasting fleet which had been lying at Sumner waiting for an opportunity to cross the bar, the north-easterly weather which prevailed nearly the whole of last week having rendered it quite impassable. Amongst those who first availed themselves of the chance of escape ■were the ketch Pryde and the schooners Isabella Jackson, Ann, and Southern Queen. The cutter, Aquilla, which had been detained inside the bar for a fortnight crossed it on Sunday morning. The three-masted schooner Rifleman from Auckland crossed the bar on the Ist instant, but drove on to the northern sandspit, where she lay for six or seven days. She got off, however, by lightening a week ago, and since that time she has been slowly making her way over the flats, reach by reach. She is now lying a short distance below the Ferry, and hopes to get up to the wharf to-morrow or next day. The Zephyr from Auckland, with a cargo of timber, got over the bar on Sunday, and is now lying at Sumner.
