The s.B. Aldinga, Capt. M'Lean, arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday afternoon, after an excellent passage of six days from Melbourne. The Aldinga left Melbourne on Tuesday, 28th January, with afull complement of passengers. She returns almost immediately for the purpose of Bringing down the mails from England. In thus putting themselves out of the way when they were compelled by DO means to do it, the owners of the vessel deserve great credit, and indeed, more substantial acknowledgment. If Captain M'Lean succeed, as he may very probably do, in bringing down the English mails in time to return answers by the out-going steamer on the 26th of the month, we trust that the local Government will handsomely testify its sense of his services. In any case, apathetic as the Dunedin merchants generally are, we are sure such signal service as this will arouse them, and we feel almost justified in promising Capt. M'Lean a popular ovation.— Daily Times, Feb. 4. .
