By the Aldinga several warrants were sent down from Victoria... One was against a person named Cuthbert for wife desertion; he was arrested in Dunedin. Another was against Mr. South, a solicitor, on the charge of embezzlement; he was arrested by detective Tuck well on Saturday night, on his return from Canterbury, which place he had been visiting.— Daily Times, No. 25. We were called upon yesterday by Mr. John Outram, and Mr. W. Fisher, who had just returned from Waitahuna, and they informed us that a nugget of solid gold weighing 12 oz 3 dwts. 12grs. had been found by a man of the name of George Skeen, a Victorian miner. It was found on Thursday last, in a gully three miles east from Waitahuna, called by the miners Nuggetty gully, and it is stated that several other nuggets varying in size, but not equal to this one have been found. Messrs. Fisher and Outram endeavoured to purchase this nugget and offered to give any price the finder chose to place upon it, but he declined parting with it, stating his intention to take it to Captain Baldwin, Commissioner at Waitahuna. This nugget is three inches long, and two inches wide, and flat in shape. It is of fine gold and no quartz. The Aldinga took 40,103 ozs. 13 dwts. of gold to Melbourne; 25,000 being shipped by the Union Bank, 15,000 by the Bank of New South Wales, and 103 ozs. 13 dwts. by private hands. ' We understand that at the New Zealand Bank premises in Rattary Street, sovereigns are being paid for the post-dated notes so unfortunately issued.—•lfo'cZ, Nbv. 26.
