AUCKLAND. - ; "We have received a copy of the ' Southern Cross* of the 25th June. Prom its columns we learn thit' the Canterbury and Otago Boundary Bill came on for the second reading on the 24th June. C. Watts Russell, ordered to be read the third time on the 25th. Two gazettes had been issued, one on the" 21st and another on the 24th June. The former contains a proclamation by his Exr] cellency, prohibiting the importation of diaeasiwL cattle into the colony. The following is the text of' the proclamation :— - "In pursuance and exercise of the power arid authority for this purpose vested in me by'the ' Customs Regulation Act, 1858/ I, Thomas Gore Browne, the Governor of the colony of New Zealand, by and-with the advice and consent;offchV Executive Council of the said colony, do hereby proclaim and declare that all cattle and parts :d£. cattle are from and after the date hereof prohibited. from being imported into the colony, unless and until the person desirous of importing any cattle or parts of cattle shall procure and produce to the chief officer of customs of the port at which the same are to be imported, a certificate under the hand of some person to be appointed and authorised in this behalf by the Commissioner of Customs or by a Superintendent for any port within the province of which he is Superintendent, to the effect that he has examined such cattle or parts of cattle and that they are respectively clean and free from the disease called pleuro-pneumonia, or from any infectious or contagious distemper or disease." The militia regulations for the several provinces in the colony are published in this Gazette. The Customs' revenue for the past quarter! is published, as are also the shipping returns, and estimated value of imports and exports for the same period. ■ The Customs' revenue for the quarter ended.slsfc March, on the whole colony, amounted to £52,235 15s sd; corresponding quarter, 1860, £46,298 3s. lid; increased revenue over ditto, £5937 11s 6d. The shipping returns for the quarter ended in March supply us with the following information: Vessels cleared out from the colony, 146; tonnage, 57,904; crews' strength, 3151; against 134 vessels of 49,920 tons burthen, with crews numbering 2995 men in 1860. The return of the value of imports at the several ports in New Zealand, for the same quarter, gives the total at £479,635, as contrasted with £402,402 in the same quarter of 1860; being an increase in the estimated value of imports in the period embraced within these returns over last year. The imports of Auckland amounted to £113,644, showing a slight falling off on the quarter; Wellington is given at £80,161, showing a decrease of £6^536 from the corresponding period of 1860; Nelson imports are £52,331, being an increase of £23,509 over the March quarter of last year. This speaks well for the general prosperity of the colony.

The return of exports for the same period shows a total of £347,581, as compared with £325,230, being an excess of £22,351 over the same quarter in 1860. It farther appears that during the quarter under notice, the estimated value of articles of New Zea* land produce and manufacture^ exported from the colony, was £337,805 ; as compared with £316,7,89 in the same quarter of 1860. . Of this total Auckland exported £23,343; Wellington £69,429; Lyttelton, £108,501; and Dunedin, £76,814.
