Local Intelligence.

INDIAN RELIEF FUND. The following' Report is published by order of the General Committee: — ■repost. The period fixed by the Committee for receiving subscriptions having expired, I have the honor to report on what has been done. In accordance with the resolution passed by the Committee on the 23rd March, circulars were issued to the gentlemen appointed to obtain contributions in the several districts into which the Province was then divided. I have the gratification of stating, that, with very few exceptions, the task of collection was very promptly undertaken by them. The result is a General Subsci'iotion List representing- the sum of £922 12s. 6d, Of this amount £"876 19s. 6d. has been paid into the bank, leaving £'45 13s. unpaid. [See note.] It is probable that most of the unpaid subscriptions would be paid if written applications were' made to the several parties for their respective amounts. The Committee will direct whether such application shall be made by the Secretary. Returns have been received from all the districts except the following : —Papanui, Harewood, Okain's Bay, Akaloa, and Tiiriarn.

There is no good reason for supposing that anything would be gained I 13 7 waiting for those returns. It is, however, proper to observe here, that though no lists have been received from those districts, yet nianj1" persons residing in them have sent in liberal subscriptions to the Bank. In conformity with the resolutions of the Committee, on the 3rd of May, the sum of £500 was sent on the 31st May, to Mr. Selfe, by a Draft on the Union Bank of Australia in London. I have the pleasure of stating that the Bank here made no charge for the transaction. Should the Committee be of opinion that the account should now be closed, it only remains for them to sanction tho payment of the ex> pences incurred, a sohedulo of which is hereunto annexed, and authorise the treasurer to write a cheque for the balance to be remitted to England.
