WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of Thomas Gore Browne, Esquire, Com- |. pan ion of the Most Honourable Order oi the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief, in and bver the Colony of New Zealand, &c., bearihs date the Fourteenth day of July, in the year ot" our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty, seven, hath been directed to me, Thomas Rowley, Esquire, as Returning Officer for the Avon District, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected by the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, four legally qualified persons to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the said Avon District Now, therefore, I, the said Thomas Rowley db hereby, in pursuance of the said recited vvrit give notice that a public meeting of .the electors of the Avon District will be holder, at the School Room, Papanui, and at Mr. Gregg's barn, Riccarton, on Thursday, the sth day of November next, at noon, for the purpose of nominating four persons to serve as Members of the Provincial Council for the said Avon District; and, in the event of a poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such pollingshall take place on Friday, the 6th day of-No-vember,, at the following polling places, viz: At the School Room, Papanui, and at Mr. ' Gregg^s Barn, Riccarton. The voting to commence at any time after 9 o'Clock, a.in. of the said 6th day of November, and to close at 4 o'Clock, p.m. of the same day. THOMAS ROWLEY, Returning Officer.
