The Lyttelton Times
Wednesday, February l%ih. We have at last received the missing mails. The letter-bags of the Tiptree, September 19, of the Donald McKay, October 5, of the Oneida, Oct. 18, and of the Simla, November 12, have all arrived together. The four mails comprised 1267 letters and 2872 newspapers ; of which 800 letters and 1739 papers had to be retaxed, under the local postal system, and forwarded to Christchurch, causing great additional labour at the Post Office. The newspapers which we have now received contain a great.deal of matter of the same dates as previous news, the important parts of which have long been published. In such a state of things we do not know how to begin to put our readers in possession of all they would have been glad to know. We fancy that our best plan will be to treat everything as past and gone beyond the ppwer of the prgss to recall.
