twice a week from Christchureh tolvaiapoi, and back. A uniform rate to be charged of one penny each for newspapers, and onehalf the present rate of postage (or one penny per half-ounce) for letters ; the Council guaranteeing the difference of expense, if any, of working the new arrangement. A debate ensued on an amendment, of Mr. Hall's, for charging twopence on each letter, which ended in the amendment being Jieg-atived, and the motion agreed to. Mr. Biuttax moved that the Council do approve of ihe reserves made by his Honour the Superintendent, for a church at, Pigeon Bay, and for a house of accommodation at the Saltwater Creek.—Agreed to. Mr. Briitax moved that his Honour be requested to reserve all the standing timber in the river-beds and islands of the Waimakariri, Rakaia, Rangitata, and Ashburton. Also, to make a reserve of 200 acres above Riccarton, for a lunatic asylum. Also, for a gravel-pit in the Christchurch district, and one at Kaiapoi.—Agreed to. Mr. Bkittax moved that his Honour be requested to take steps to have the seal of the late Canterbury Association altered, to convert it into a seal for the province. Also that his Honor be requested to order the payment of £ 1,000 on the interest account of the Canterbury Debentures.— Agreed to. Mr. Beat's motion regarding the roads was withdrawn, to be renewed. In answer to a question by Mr. Thomson, Mr. Beitxax said that the goverment would place on the estimates a sum for a bridge to connect the Papanui and Riccarton Roads. Mr. Hai,i. gave notice for Tuesday to consider the message of His Honor the Superintendent. Mr. Brixtak gave notice that on Tuesday he should move that the Loan Bill be committed, also to move for a Committee of Supply. Also, to move for ai-eserve of a quarter of an acre at the new ferry over the Waimakariri, and 100 acres for the ferry over the Rakaia. The House then adjourned.
