'SBWELL, Esq. ~T\EAR SIR,-—The undersigned Electors -*-^ of the Province of Canterbury, ackn wledging with unfeigned satisfaction, the great services you have rendered to this Province in your advocacy of its interests in the General Assembly, respectfully hope that you will allow yourself to be again nominated as one of their Representatives in that house. They have, it is true, heard of your contemplated return to England, but they sincerely trust, unless circumstances of an urgent nature recall you there, that you will, for the present at least, forego your intention, in order to afford to the Province, for the ensuing session, the benefit of your most valuable assistance. The attention which 3'ou have given to the financial pffairs of the Colony is calculated to be so eminently valuable to this Province, that the loss of your services at the present juncture would be a serious prejudice to the Province of Canterbury. GENTLEMEN, —In compliance with a Requisition, from a numerous body of electors of the Province of Canterbury, requesting me to allow myself to be nominated as one of their Representatives in the approaching Session of the General Assembly, I have determined to defer my return to England, and to offer myself as a , candidate for your suffrages at the ensuing election. To the Independent Electors of Akaroa. aENTLEMEN, —When I first stood forward (at your request) as a candidate for the honour of representing you in the Provincial Council, you may recollect I stated to you my fears, thai my duty towards you would interfere with my clerical duties. Those fears have now been fully realized, the difficulty of I providing a substitute, during my absence at the Council, becoming every day greater, I beg, therefore, forthwith to resign the trust, when I cannot perform its duties to your benefit or my own satisfaction. In doing so, however, let me assure you 1 shall always feel a <leep interest in the welfare of Akaroa, though not her representative. I am, dear Sirs, Your obliged servant, William Aixmer. G-lencarny, Akaroa, Nov. 12th, 1855. * New Zealand, to Wit, — Province of Canterbury, WHEREAS a Writ, under the hand of Jajmks Edward Fitz Gerald, Enquire, Superintendent of the Province ol Canterbury, &x\, tec, bearing date the Twentieth day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty-five, hath been directed to me, John Watson, Esquire, Returning Officer for the Akaroa District, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified for that purpose, freely and indifferently, and in manner and form by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council, in the place of the Reverend William A'ylmbr, resigned : —Now therefore, I, the said John Watson, Esquire, Returning officer for the Akaroa District, do hereby in pursuance of the said recited-writ, give notice tbat a public meeting of the electors of the Akaroa District, will beholden at the Resident. Aiagistraie's Court, at Akaroa, on Wednesday, the 2nd day of Jaunarv, 18;*)(>, at noon, for the purpose of'nominating One Person to serve as a member of the Provincial Council of Canterbury, for the Akaroa District, and in the event of a. poll being demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Thursday, the 3rd day of January, 1856, in the Resident Magistrate's Court House, at Akuroii ; the voting to* commence at any time after nine o'clock, a.m., of the said day, and to close at four o'clock, p.m., of the same day.
