GENERAL ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS. New Zealand to wit,—Province of Canterbury. ~\%THEREAS a Writ, under the hand of » » Thomas Gore Browsk, Esquire, Coinj»an* (>n of ihe most honourable Order of the Ball), Governor and Commander in Chief in and over the islands of New Zealand, &c, &c., bearing date the Fifteenth day of September, in the "rear of our Lord one thousand eisrht hundred and fifty-five, hath been directed to me, Chaki.es Christopher Bowks, Esquire,as Returning Officer for the town of Chrisiehnrch, requiring and commanding me to cause to be elected, by and from amongst the voters duly qualified " for that purpose, freely and indif ferentlv, and in manner and form by law prescribed, One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the said town of Christchurch, the General Assembly of New Zealand having been dissolved ; Now, therefore, I, the said Charles Christopher Bowes, Esq , Returning Officer for the town of Christchurch, do hereby in pursuance of the said Tecited writ, give notice that a public meeting of the Electors of the to;vn of Christchuicli, will be bolden in the Market Place of the town of Christchurch, on Tuesday, the IBth day of December, next, at norm, for the purpose of nominating One Person to serve as a member of the House of Representatives, for the town ofChrist•hurch, and in the event of a poll being, demanded for the candidates or any of them, such polling shall take place on Wednesday, the nineteenth day of December, next, in the lobby of the Provincial Council Chamber, at Christcliurch ; the voting to commence at any lime after nine o'clock, a.m. of the said day, and to •lose at four o'clock p.m. of the same day.
