Heathcote Wharf Company. AT a Meeting held at the Canterbury Hotel, on the 4th lust., H. "Le Cken, Esqr., in the chair, the following resolutions were unanimously adopted, viz:— That this meeting is of opinion that it is desirable to establish a new Wharf and Warehouses on the Heathcote river, to meet the increasing business of the Settlement, and that such be erected by means of a Joint Stock Company, in shares of £o each. That a Provisional Committee, to consist of seven shareholders with power to add to their number, be appointed for the purpose of carrying out the objects of the same, and that the following gentlemen be requested to act, viz :— Messrs. Blakiston, Gould, Hargreaves, Ballard, Cookson, White, and 11. Le C'ren. That a Sub-Committee of the following gentlemen, Messrs. G. Day, Ballard, and Gould, be formed for the,purpose of ascertaining and reporting upon to the.Provisional Committee the most eligible site for the purpose. That the Provisional Committee appointed call a General Meeting by advertisement of shareholders and olheis interested, to report progress and submit rules for management of the Company. Christ's College, Canterbury. rpHERE will be an Election to a Scholar- -*- ship on the Rowley Foundation of this College, on Saturday, the I lib of August next. The present value-of the Scholarship is £\2 per annum. It is tenable for four years, and open to all Youths, being members of the Church of Engiaud, who shall have attained the age of 14, and not exceeded that of 19 on the day of election. must present themselves at the Grammar School, Christchurch, on the Wednesday preceding the day of election, between the hours of !0 and 12 a.m., and must bring with them satisfactory attestations of their Age and Baptism (if possible, their regular Certificate of Baptism), together with Ceriificate from their Parents or Guardians that they are members, of the Church of England, and testimonials of character. Proficiency will be required of (he Candidates in Sc.ipture History, and Divinity, and in any three of the following subjects, viz: —Classics, Mathematics, Ancient History, Modern History, Gdooraphy, the French Language, and the German Language. Thesuceessful candidate will be required to reside in Christchurch, and attend the course of instruction to be provided in the Senior Department of the College, during tlie College Terms for the time during which he shall hold the Scholarship, and uTconform to all the rules of the College. Any further information may be obtained on application to the Rev. H. Jacobs, Sub Warden of the College, at the Grammar School, Christchurch.
