: — 5P / SUPREME COURT. NOTICE is hereby given that a Sitting of the Supreme Court for the despatch of criminal and civil business will be holden at Lytlelton on the day following the next arrival of the-steainer "Nelson" from the Northern Settlements, at ten o'clock in the forenoon, within the Court House there, at which time and place all persons-,under recognizances to appear either as prosecutors, defendants, or witnesses, are required to give their attendance. The civil business will be proceeded with immediately after the criminal business. j. C. Porter, ' Deputy Registrar." Supremo Court Office, Oct. 23,1854. Mr. Wakefield to Ms Constituents. BROTHER Electors op the Chbistchurch Country District.—l have hitherto abstained from asking you to meet me, and receive from me an explanation of my conduct as your Representative in the General Assembly, because I was in the hopes that the local newspapers would without delay have furnished you with much authentic information relating to the proceedings of the Legislature j of the colony (especially with regard to the subject of the Waste Lands), which I cannot j help thinking essential to a full understanding of the course which I thought it my duty to pursue in opposition to the other four gentlemen who represent this Province. In these hopes I have been disappointed. The proprietors of the Canterbury Standard have, I believe, the will to publish the documents to which I allude, but their means are only sufficient to enable them to do so at intervals, which may extend over a considerable period to come. The editor of the Lyttelton Times says he really cannot inform me, or any one else, as to what documents he shall be able to publish from week to week; and that, far less can he be expected to say when or how" they will be published. He also assures me of his anxiety that all documents of public interest , and importance, the Waste Lands' Bill among others, should be in the hands of the public of the Province as soon as possible. But the actual result of my waiting, and of my distinct application to both papers, is that even now, nearly a month after the arrival in the Province of all the documents relating to the Waste Lands, the only one yet published is the Waste Lands' Act now in force, which was printed in the last Canterbury Standard, and which was unanimously agreed to by all the members of both Houses of the Legislature. The two Bills introduced by Mr. Fitz Gerald and his supporters into the House of Representatives, one in each session, both of which I opposed—and the amendments proposed to both those Bills by my father, which I sup—have never yet been in the hands of ifej, public of this Province. The only alternative left to me is, to publish them at my own expense, should the local papers find further delay either inevitable or desiiable. But publication by a private individual to so extensive and scattered a constituency, involves great delay as well as expense. I shall therefore no longer postpone meeting you ; and I must trust to your sense of Justice not to allow your ignorance of these documents to betray you into any hasty decision. I therefore purpose, if it should be convenient to you, to meet you in public at the Golden Fleece Inn, Christchurch, on Tuesday, the 7th Nov.: at the Traveller's Rest, Riccarton, on Wednesday, the Bth Nov.; at the Sawyer's Anns, Papanui, on Thursday, the 9ih Nov.; and at Kaiapoi on Friday, the 10th Nov., each day at seven o'clock in the evening. I remain, brother electors, * Your faithful and obedient Servant, E. Jerningham Wakefield. Christchurch, 30th October, 1854.
