Provincial Council.

Tuesday. Oct. 17,1854. Present—The Speaker, Messrs. Hall, Packer, Tancred, Cookson, Cass, Bo wen. Prayers were read by the Rev. O. Mathias. Mr. Hall said he must crave the indulgence of the House in making a statement to them which recent events had occasioned, Jt was nnnecessary to remind the house that they were in tbe unfortunate position of being without an executive, a circumstance which he deeply deplored, and he was sure that every member of Use House felt an equal amount of regret with himself that such a step had become necessary. The resignations of the Executive having been accepted, they could only look forward to what was best for the interest of the colony. It.became his duty to inform them that His Honor hi-d confided to him tbe responsibility of forming an Executive to carry on the affairs of the Province. As it was only yesterday that he had signified his willingness to endeavour to form urn Executive, it would be evident, he thought, that the lime had been brief to allow him to tn.-ikc imi:;h progress in a matter of so much responsibility. He would therefore have to ask the House to consent to a short adjournment, in order to enable him to complete tliearnmgenM'iits which these events had rendered necessary. When the House're-asseinbled, if he

should be successful in forming an Executive, His Honor would then come down with a message, in which he would declare the policy they intended to introduce, and the measures it was their intention to pursue. He would move that the House do adjourn for a fortnight.

Mr. Takcred rose to second the motion, which was carried.
