To Stand this Season, At the Royal Hotel, Christchureh, THE thorough bred horse "LEADING •"" ARTICLE," by Sir Charles out of Brunette. "Leading Article," is a beautiful Dark Brown Horse, free from white, now rising six years old, with an excellent constitution. " Leading Article,' was foaled at Nelson, where he won the Leger in 1852, beating Mr. Timlin's Gipsey Queen, and on the following day, the Ladies' Purse, beating Mr. Newcpmb's mare Vesta, and. Mr. Godfrey's horse Silver Tail, Leading Article carrying 13 lbs. over weight: distance, one mile and 366 yards ; run in 2 minutes and 21 seconds. Leading Article was trained for the Nelson races in 1853, and was the favourite for the Victualler's Purse of 3 miles against Mr. Redwood's celebrated horse Glaucus, and Mr.. Newcomb's horse Joe Miller, but broke down in the race through an injury he had sustained in they Fetlock joint, notwithstanding, running a good, second with Glaucus. . ....;■ r Terms, £b ss. each mare, payable the 4th of January. I. Fkeeth. To Stand this Season, HHHE Well-known Blood Horse " SHAM- -■- ROCK," will stand for the season at Kaiapoi, in charge of W. Januaway. Shamrock was got by " St. John," (imported from England by Mr. Prowse), out of " Lady Jane" by imported Horse " Emigrant." Her dam by " Theorem," out of a mare by "Old Hector." Shamrock was the winner of two prizes at the Hawkesbury Agricultural Company's Show, as the best colonial bred blood horse. Every care will be taken of the mares by Mr. Smith, of the island, who has consented to take charge of them. The fine young thoroughbred horse JOE MILLER, by Jersey out of Miss Miller, (own brother to Phoenix, naif brother to Bay Middleton, winner of the Derby) by Buzzard out of Cobweb, (winner of the Oaks) by Phantom out of Filagree,' by Soothsayer, Webby Waxy, &c, [vide Stud BookJ] " Miss Miller, by Wanderer out of an Arab mare, imported into V.D.L., by Captain Stewart of that Colony; Wanderer (bred by Lord Egremont) by Trump out of a Blacklock mare, her dam Camerton's dam by Precipitate, &c, [vide Stud Booh~\ This promising young horse is now rising five years old, perfectly quiet, free from vice or blemish, stands 16 hands high, a rich dark chesnut. At Ham Farm. /TIHE Clydesdale Horse CANTERBURY, -*- imported by J. C. Walts Russell, Esq., stands 16 hands and a half, 7 yrs. old. His sire, " Young Scotsman," gained several prizes in the County. Ayr. His grandsire, " Scotsman," gained the two first prizes in the Highland Agricultural Show. Terms, £4 4s. —ss. the Groom. £2 REWARD?. STRAYED— a Brown Entire Horse, about 15 hands high, quite quiet, and branded on the side B V, rising 5 years old. He was very low in condition, and his ribs bear the marks of injury from the sling sticks. Any one bringing the said horse uninjured to Mr. J. Cbacroet Wilson, Christchureh, shall receive the above reward.
