' Sir, V^ E cessation of the powers of the Can. terbury Association, having rendered necessary a consolidation of the offices hitherto existing for the administration of the Crown Land of the Province of Canterbury, His Kxcellency the Governor taking into consideration the great extent of the district to be henceforth placed under one Commissioner, the recent severe illness which unfortunately incapacitated you from attendance to the out-door duties of your office, and the considerable bodily fatigue and exposure which the necessity of traversing so large a district will impose upon the Confmissioner, thinks it desirable that the following arrangements should now be made. His Ex^ cellency has been pleased to confer upon you, in place of the Commissionership of Crown Lands, the appointment of Registrar of Deeds, and of births, deaths, and marriages for the province of Canterbury, &c. Your offices'of Commissioner of Crown Lands, and of Commissioner under the Land Ordinances of the General Council of New Zealand will cease upon your assuming the duties of the office now coufened. 1 have the honor to be, Sir, Your most obedient, humble Servant, Alpbed Domett, Civil Secretary. In pursuance of the above communication from the Hon. the Civil Secretary under date at Wellington, the sth October last, I hereby give notice that on and from Thursday, the Ist of December next, I shall assume the duties of Registrar of Deeds, and Registrar-General of Births, Deaths;, and Marriages, at the offices now established in the Land-Office, Christchnrch, upon which the duties of Commissioner of Crown Lands and Commissioner under the Land Ordinances of the General Council of New Zealand will be undertaken by William Guise Brittan, Esq., my successor in that office.
