wanted money, lands which, for years to come, cannot, in general, be made available but as mere pasturage. But what is very extraordinary, it is currently reported that, Mr. Henry Sewell, as special Agent of the Association, and who is in a hurry to raise money, is now in conjunction with a few individuals, trying to effect sales of some well-situated and valuable sections of these supposed to be Church lands. At all events, an attempt was thus made by the Committee of the Association to conceal a serious misapplication of money, and which would prevent the Crown and the public from raising the sixth of the sum which ought to be paid for these lands, into the treasury of the Province, had the sales been valid. Was I not right, when in my letter to the*, electors of the Canterbury province, I so earnestly cautioned them as to whom they should return: whether as Superintendent, or to the House of Representatives, and to the Proving cial Council ?
