Leading Article is a handsome dark brown horse, fifteen hands high, rising five years old, and of excellent constitution ; was foaled in Nelson, where he won the Leger in 1852, beating Mr. Tinline's Gipsy Queen, and! on the following day, the Ladies' Purse, beating Mr. Newcome's mare Vesta, and Mr. God-"** 1 frey's horse, Silvertail, in 2 m. 21 sec, and 2 m. 22 sec, distance 1 mile 366 yards,-carrying 9st. 81bs. (131bs. overweight). Leading Article was trained for the last Nelson races, and was the favourite for the Victualler's Purse, of three miles, against Mr. Redwood's celebrated horsey , Glaucus, aud Mr. Newcome's horse Joe Miller, 'but he broke down in the race from an injury he had received in the fetlock joint. i This horse will arrive at Christchurch from ! Nelson, on or before the Ist of October next, ! when further particulars will be given.
