To the Electors of the Akaroa District. Gentietken, T beg to offer myself as a Candidate for -*- the honour of representing you in the General Assembly of New Zealand. I am averse, Gentlemen, to giving pledges; but on the question of the Waste Lands, I am prepared to support any measure having for its object the transfer of the power exercised over them by the General Assembly, to the Provincial Council of the Province : believing that such a measure would largely tend to promote the advancement of the Settlement. I have the honor to remain, Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, Robert H. Rhodes. To the Electors of the Akaroa District. • Gentlemen, T BEG to offer myself as a Candidate for ■*- a seat in your Provincial Council. Absence at Wellington on private affairs has prevented my offering myself to your notice earlier. I hope that it may not cause the loss of the support I seek from you. My interest in the prosperity of this Settlement, and my standing as an old colonist, are well known to all. On the day of nomination I shall be prepared to state my views on the various political questions now raised amongst you. I am. Gentlemen, Your obedient servant, Robert H. Rhodes. To the Electors of the Akaroa District. Gentlemen, TN accordance with the wishes of a veiy : -■- considerable, number of the Akaroa Constituency, I beg to offer myself as a f Candidate for the Representation of the [ Akaroa District in the Provincial Council. I am, Gentlemen, Yours very faithfully, W. S. Moorhotjse. August 10th, 1853, To the Electors of the Akaroa District. Gentlemen, THE voluntary assurance of support I have received from so numerous and influential a portion of your body, is, I hope, a sufficient reason for my publicly offering myself as a Candidate for the Representation of the Akaroa District in the Legislative Assembly. Should you think proper to elect me, it shall be my earnest endeavour to merit the good opinion and confidence of my Constituents, and by every means in my power to forward the real interest of Banks' Peninsula generally. I shall take every care to make myself acquainted with your wants and wishes, and to give effect to these honestly and earnestly. I am particularly averse to making promises, which circumstances may place it out of my power to perform; therefore, with regard to Pledges, all I can say is, that so soon as I perceive that a majority of your number disapprove of the measures I may feel it my duty to promote, I will at once resign the trust I have every reason to hope you will repose in my hands. I am, Gentlemen, Yours very faithfully, W. S. Moorhovse. August 10th, 1853.
