THE CHRISTCHURCH CONVEYANCE COMPANY.
To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. Sir, —As the aboye Company was professedly established to.benefit the public by reducing the freight of goods to Christchurch,"l presume it will have no. objection to enlighten us on some of the following questions : Why did not the Company, which a few months before publicly notified a reduction in freight in the Lyttelton Times, make equally public the fact of raising it again ? Why does it not collect its outstanding freight due by many Shareholders ? How was it, that at a recent meeting of Shareholders, it was proposed by one, and seconded by another, that a Call should be made to meet expenses, although a large amount of freight was at that very moment due to the Company by some of the Shareholders-at Christchurch, among whom were the mover and seconder of the motion? How is it, that, knowing what immense profits the Company mint have made, (if its accounts have been properly kept,) it should make any Call at all, and not pay expenses out of those profits ? Query ? As several Shares are now being advertised for Sale, would the Company have any objection to publish a balance sheet of its assets and liabilities, in order that something may he known of the concern to guide intending purchasers? I am, Sir, Your obedient servant, One of the Public.
