CORRESPONDENCE.
To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. Sir,—ln reference to your remarks in last week's paper, that " The Memorial to His Excellency ought to have been laid before the public at large," I will merely observe that a requisition signed by 13 Inhabitants was presented to Capt. Simeon, requesting him to call a Public Meeting to discuss this question, but that he declined calling it, considering that his position as Resident Magistrate prevented him holding a public meeting to discuss local affairs. It was in consequence of thus failing in our endeavours to obtain a public expression of feeling that it was resolved forthwith to memorialize his Excellency, and I think the number of signatures attached a most favourable test of what the public feeling is here. A Land Purchaser. Lyttelton, April 23rd, 1852.
