CALIFORNIA.

[From the " Sydney Morning Herald," Nov. 29.] Our San Francisco papers are to the 24th September. The Viirilance Committee had dissolved itseli. The Alia 'California, which has been the organ of the Committee, in announcing the fact,

asks:— "Where now are the predictions of those who told us, in most pathetic strains, of the dangers that followed upon the footsteps of the -meifw^ho sought to cure the state of its complicated ills ? Where are the vociferous proclaimers of terror ? The day of danger has passed—the hour of difficulty has gone by, and the horrors depicted in such grandiloquent pathos have not fallen us. The State breathes freer than she ever did before,—her credit is higher,—her laws are more efficiently administered,—the property and lives of her citizens are more secure, and peace, quiet, and prosperity smile, upon the land. We ask the attention of those •who have so strenuously opposed the action of the Vigilance Committee, to these facts. They will then see how much they have misconstrued and misunderstood their fellow-citizens, who have reluctantly but firmly.performed the public duties which have so materially contributed to the restoration of law, order, and security." The mines were said to be yielding large quantities of gold. Quartz-crushing by machinery was being most successfully carried on, but no results are given. At the. Rattlesnake Bar, on the Sacramento River, a party, of fourteen men are said to have earned 1800 dollars in one day.
