To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times.
Sir, —Allow me through the medium of your paper to correct a statement which appeared in the Wellington Independent, of the 13th inst., to the effect that specimens of mineral in sand quartz and bark, had been brought to me for analysis, and after applying the usual tests, 1 had pronounced the metal pure gold. The statement is incorrect, first, because I had but one piece of sandstone brought me, and next, I have never sufficiently tested th e mineral to warrant me in pronouncing it pure gold, 1 am, Sir,Yours obediently, A. Bayfielq, Lyttehou, Aug. 26th.
