COREESPONDENCE.
SEA POSTAGE. To the Editor of the Lyttelton Times. Sir, —It may be instructive to your readers to learn some of the risks they run in entrusting their letters to private hands rather than to the Post-Office authorities. A mortifying disappointment of my own will illustrate one danger. A letter sent by me by a friend going to Sydney in January last was returned to me last ivee'k with the superscription following: "Betumed to Lyttelton, N. Z., for non-payment of sea-postage, 3d." For default of payment of 3d. my anxious friends in England will probably remain ignorant of my arrival here, and of my safety, for three months longer than if I had trusted to the courseof post, which, doubtless, I had calculated on outstripping. Our motto in despatching our correspondence from a place like this should be—" Sat cito, si sat bene." I remain, Sir 3 Tour obedient servant, W.
