The banquet in honour of the Delegates from Van Dieraen's Land, came off on April 3rd. A public meeting had been convened to petition the Legislative Council against the proposed Electoral Bill. The chief grounds for the objection were, that while it was proposed to return eight members to represent the population within the boundaries, and fourteen members for that without the boundaries, only ten were to be returned for Sydney and the other towns of the colony, although they contained one-half of the entire population. Flour was quoted at from 18^. to 201. per ton for line, 161. to 19/. for seconds. There was but a limited supply at these rates, and consequently an advancing market. The supply of both cattle and sheep was abundant, but for the most part inferior in quality. Letters from the chief grazing districts gave distressing accounts of their condition for want of rain. A sale had been made of 200 tons Copper Ore from the Cornish Settlement mine, near Batlmrst. The first half-yearly Meeting of the new Bank of New South Wales took place on the 10th of April. The net profits were stated at 12,727/. lls. Sd., which it was proposed to appropriate as follows: 5,540/. 17s. bd., for payment of a dividend of 10 per cent per annum ; 5,500/. towards the formation of a Reserved Fund ; leaving an unappropriated balance, for the purpose of equalizingjfuture dividends, of 16561. 14s. 2d.
