THE LYTTELTON COLLEGIATE GRAMMAR SCHOOL. rpHIS Department of the COLLEGE -*- has been commenced, and will for some time be carried on in the School-room at Lyttelton, under the care of the Classical Professor of the College. Boys will be received from the age of 7 to 15. It will be necessary that they should at least be able to read with ease previous to their admission. The course of instruction will embrace the Greek and Latin Classics, Ancient and Modern History, Ecclesiastical History, and Geography, Arithmetic, Algebra, and Euclid, Vocal Music, Drawing, and French ; and, above all, the Doctrines of the Christian Keligion, as expounded by the United Church of England and Ireland. The terms will be two guineas a quarter for Day-scholars, to be paid in advance, and to commence on Lady-day, with an additional payment of 2s. 6d. per quarter in the lower forms, and ss. per quarter in the upper, for the use of books, of which an ample suj>ply will be provided. Arrangements will be made for the reception of Boarders, as soon as circumstances will admit of the School being transferred to Christchurch. The terms for Boarders to he fixed hereafter. The hours will he, for the future, from 9 to 12 in the morning, and from 2 to half-past 4 in the afternoon, except on Saturdays, which are whole holidays. There will be longer holiday's twice in the year for a period of five weeks at each time, together with one week at Easter. j An Assistant-Master has been appointed, and has already entered upon his duties. He will teach, more especially, Writing, Arithmetic, Drawing, and Singing. In connection with this School, and in order to meet a want which, it is believed, is extensively felt, it is intended to :form a class of little' boys and girls, paying Is. each per week, and to be under the immediate tuition of the Assistant-Master. This Class may be regarded as Preparatory, in the case of the boys, to the Grammar School, and in that of the Girls, to the sister institution, which it is proposed to establish, in course of time, for the education of young gentlewomen. THE LYTTELTON CHURCH GRAMMAR SCHOOL. THIS SCHOOL has now been in operation for nearly two months. It is a mixed School, for the present, of Boys and Girls, above the age of 6, and under 14. The terms for the First and Second Classes are 6d. each per week, for the under Classes 3d., to he paid to the Master of the School every Monday morning in advance. The 'School is under the general superintendence and inspection of the Clergy, who, besides regularly teaching for a certain time each day, will examine the children periodically, in public, as well in their religious knowledge, as in their general acquirements. The History and Geography of the Old and New Testaments, the Church Catechism, Beading, Writing, and Arithmetic, Modern Geography, and"Vocal Music, will form the principal subjects of instruction. The girls will also be taught needlework. The hours will he, for the future, from 9 to 12 in the morning, and from 2 to 5 in the afternoon, Saturdays excepted, which are whole holidays. There will also be holidays, of three weeks each time, at two periods of the year, besides a week at Easter. The Clergy will attend on Monday mornings, between the hours of 9 and 10, to admit new scholars, and to consult, if need be, with the parents of children already in the School. Instruction will be provided in the elements of Mechanics, Natural Philosophy, Land-Sur-veying", Mensuration, Linear and Figure Drawing. "The payment of (3d. extra per week will entitle a hoy or girl to instruction in any or all of these subjects. For further information apply to the llev. B. W.
