POLICE REPORT.
Before John RoßßftT Godley, Esq., Resident Magistrate. December 20, 185o|-JoA«-ili«««, a merchantseaman, wm charged by Captain William DaJe, matter1 ol the ship "SRandolph," with having aa•anlted.hiin while on toard ship. From the evidence of Captain Dale, corroborated by Mr. Samuel Sheard, Mb second officer, it appeared that the prisoner was qnamlling with one t>f the emigrants, and on the captain ordering him kft, the prisoner struck him in the mouth. Fined 2/., or 14 days' imprisonment. Th# fine not being paid, the prisoner was moved to the lock-up.— John Cbrmiek and James JReeve, mer-shant-seamen on bdard the " Randolph," were charged with hairing.refused to work, and were each sentenced to one week's imprisonment. December SI, ifiSOl-— Joseph JBennel, was fined 6t. for being drunk, .-t > '- J«Mi«ry 2, ( lßfii.— L. , was charged with having stolen a door, the property of the Canterbury Association, of the value of ss. The prisoner stated that he had bought some doors of Mr. Gartner, the storekeeper to the Association, and he thought that the door lie had taken was one of then*. Mr. Gartner, however, proved that the doors the prisoner had bought were placed in" another part of the store. Sentence* one week's imprisonment.
January S. — Samuel £ithop, merchant-seaman, was brought up charged with larceny, in having unlawfully taken s ship's boat, and also with desertion feam the barque " Cressy." Tha charge of larceny not having been proceeded with, the prisoner was convicted of the minor offence, and sentenced to a fortnight's imprisonment
January l.— WillUm CerhUhley, merchant seaman, was charged with deserting the ship " Randolph, 11 and was sentenced to a fortnight's imprisonment.
