Mr A Whitley, In.-peoior of Mine*, visited tbe Lakes District last week. Mr W. R, Paterson, who has been spending an extended holiday in the Nor.h Island, returned to Ayrburn on Monday. Miss Iris Romans, who is ou the teaching staff of Waitaki Gills High School, Oamaru. is spendiag the term holidays with hsr parents in Arrowtown. The death is reported from Noeeby of Mr Joseph Warren Tyler, who wai (or some time a resident of Arrowtowa, where be was employed ia “JThe Stores.” He bad resided in Nasekv since 1914. w Mr Joba Bell Thomson wm recently presented by tbe employee! at Kavaraa Ham with a ease of pipes, suitably inscribed, as a token of their appreciation of bit courageous action in attempting to rescue William Kent, who was recently drowned at Kawerau Falls. The preseatatioa was made by Mr S. 0. David, supervising eagiaeer at the Dam, who referred ia highly appreoiatory terms to tbe bravery displayed by Mr Thomson on that oeeasiou.

Prior to leaving Bluff to take up the position of first assistant in St. Gserge School Mr Andrew Kinross was the fMipisßt of several presentations from local organisations with which he was connected. From the Basket Ball Olnb Mr Kinross received a collar hex and Mrs Kinross a rose bowl. The congregation of Bluff Presbyterian Church presented Ur Kinross with a travelling rug and Mrs Kinross with a case of stainless cutlery, while Mrs Kinross also received a pair of vases (ton the Sunday School scholars. Mr Kinros* was also the recipient of a present from his pupils.
