LAKE COUNTY HOSPITAL

Proposed Maternity Ward. At the meeting of the Arrow Borough Council on Tuesday evening, Mr John Cockburn, district representative on the Southland H. and C. A. Board, waited on the Council in connection with the proposed establishment of a maternity ward at the Lake County Hospital. Mr Cockburn said the matter had been discussed by the Board and it has teen left to him to ascertain the feeling of the district people. The Lake County Council had already endorsed the proposal. A district nurse had been suggested as an alternative, but he was of opinion that the maternity ward was a much better idea, and would prove of great benefit to a scattered district such as Lake County. It was proposed to provide four beds and a fully qualified nurse. In reply to Or Romans, Mr Cookburn said that if the proposal was carried out, the Board would bear the whole cost of establishing the ward. Mr Cockburn thanked the Council and then withdrew. In a short discussion, councillors expressed themselves as strongly in favour of the proposal, and the following motion, proposed by Cr Adams, seconded by Cr Romans, was carried unanimously That this Council ia strongly in favour of the establishment of a maternity ward at Lake County Hospital.
