GENERAL RICHARDSON.
Reception in Dunedin. General Richardson arrived in Dunedin on Saturday evening and was accorded a royal reception. He was loudly cheered at the station and passed through ranks of returned soldiers to a carriage drawn by six artillery horses and he was driven to the Otago Club, where another enthusiastic reception awaited him. He was carried shoulder high and the crowd would not be satisfied until he bad given them a short address and promised to speak more fully to a gathering of returned men. Speaking to a reporter. General Richardson had something to say about the necessity for continuing territorial training on the lines suggested by the experience of war. On the Repatriation problems General Richardson expressed the opinion that the Government would have to buy up small sections, erect houses and start men in such occupations as poultry farming. He also suggested the establishment in each district of a small bureau, where the
nv a could get information as to how to -settle down. His advice to the re-tu-ned man was to get into plain clothes as quickly as possible and gel back to wo'k. Ho appealed to the public for forgiveness for small delinquencies on the part of the men just returned. The public should try to realise their indebtedness to soldiers. “ Don’t offer him charity.” he said, “ Give him a chance to earn a living, especially is that the case of the disabled man.”
