ST. PAUL'S CHURCH.

Annual Meeting.

The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Paul’s Cburob was held in the Parish Hall, Arrowtown, on Friday evening last. The Vicar (Rev. E. G. Goats) presided, and there was a large attendance of parishioners and friends, those present including Rev. J. Rattray. The balance sheet showed a credit balance of £4O 17s, as against 5s 7d shown at last annual meeting. This satisfactory state of finances was due to the efforts of the Ladies’ Guild, who had held a successful sale of work during the year. In the course of his report the Vicar stated that he regretted his inability to provide full services at Arrowtown owing to there being no lay-reader for the district. He stated that all the set* vices had been well attended, especially the 8 a.m. Holy Communion. The Primate visited the Parish during the year and administered the rite of confirmation. The services at Crown Terrace had been loyally supported by the local residents. The Vicar had only been able to make pastoral visits to Gibbston. Special reference was made to the loss the church had sustained during the year in the removal from the district of Mr and Mrs Pope. Mr Pope had acted as treasurer for the church, and Mrs Pope bad been one of the stipend collectors. Both had been indefatigable in their labours. Another irreparable loss was the removal of Mr Jno. Jenkins and family to Invercargill. Mr Jenkins had been a member of the congregation since his birth, and with Mrs Jenkins and family had always taken the liveliest interest; in the welfare of the church in Arrowtown. At the time of her removal Mrs Jenkins was a leading spirit in the Ladies’ Guild, while the Misses Jenkins were very earnest workers for the Sanctuary Guild. Their places in the congregation will be hard to fill. In returning thanks to all who had assisted him during the year, the Vicar specially mentioned the church officers, the choir and organist, the Sunday School teachers, the Sanctuary Guild and the lady collectors. The following officers were elected: —Vicar’s warden, Mr Q. H. Romans; peoples' warden, Mr G. D. Baird ; secretary and treasurer, Miss L. Preston ; vestry, Messrs Baird, Paterson, L. Lee and F. G. Nind; committee, Messrs Baird, Romans, Paterson, S. Peacock, Jno. Butel, A. Churchill, 0. Johnston, Wm. McKibbin, L,

Lee, J. H. Douglas, F. G. Nind and R. Gilraour; parochial nominators, # Messrs Baird and Paterson ; collectors, Mesdaraes Baird and Paterson, Misses B. uud L. Preston; hou. auditor, Mr Nind. This concluded the formal business before the meeting, and a couple cf hours were afterwards spent in parlour games and dancing. Songs were contributed by Misses E McKibbin and E. Mayne and Master Lex Churchill, and the little Misses Peacock played a pianforte duet. A jumbled name competition, arranged by Mesdaraes Baird and Paterson, afforded much amuseamusement, the lady’s prize being won by Mias Gwen Preston and the gent’s by Mr Jack Cotter, while the consolation prizes were secured by Mrs Wilcox and Mr Ernie Thompson. Miss Gwen Preston played the accompaniments for the singers, and also supplied the music for the dance. Refreshments were provided by the ladies of St. Paul's congregation .
