Mrs Andrew Jopp returned home on Saturday, after spending a very pleasant holiday at Gore. Mr Alf. Rasinussen received cable advice last week that his brother, Private Peter Rasmussen, is in hospital in France.

Mr Robert Ray, of Bannookburn, a returned soldier, has been appointed assistant clerk to the Vincent County Council.

Dr E. K. Edie, formerly superintenr dent of the Lake County Hospital, who left with the 28rd Reinforcements, has been reported slightly wounded. The Rev. R. H. Blair, of Leeston, has received a call from the Presbyterian congregation at Hampden. The Rev. Mr Blair was at one time in iharge of Wakatipu. V The Wyndham Farmer says that Mr Bernard Rushton, jun. (an old Arrow boy) has purchased » bakery business at Nightcaps, and left last Week for his new sphere. Our readers will be glad to hear that Mrs Tom Cotter, of Arrowtown, who was seriously ill for some weeks, is regaining lost strength, and no doubt now exists as to hsr complete recovery.

We regret to hear that Mr R. Cotter, senr., of Arrowtown, has become totally blind. Mr Cotter is in bis eighty-sixth year. His numerous frfends will be glad to hear that his general health is good. The death took place at the Lake County Hospital on Saturday last of Mrs Dance, an old and respected resident of Queenstown. Deceased, who was 79 years of age, had been in ill-health for Borne time. Writing from Hornchurch Hospital (England) to a friend in Arrowtown, Corp. Charles Smith states that he is making satisfactory progress towards recovery from the wounds he received at Messines in June last. Nurse Wilson, of Southland Hospital, has been appointed to the Lake County Hospital, in place of Nurse Milne, who has returned to the Southland Hospital. The Mail says that Nurse Wilson entered on her duties last week.

Mr Charles Illingworth has been appointed town clerk at Mataura, out of 84 applications. Mr Illingworth was formerly town clerk at Arrowtown, aid has been ten years on the Inveroargill Borough Council staff, at the present time holding the position of cashier and paymaster.
