THE WAR.

There has been fierce fighting otfthe west front since our last issue, and the enemy losses have been very great, , mPi) ; f t the slain being G.OOO of the Frisian guards. The enemy is well supplied with munitions and gun;?, and is making the moat desperate resist-

ance; nevertheless the British and French are still advanoing and taking many prisoners and guns. The latest news from the eastern front is better, and there is now pome hope that Russia will recover. Rumania is stimulating the Russians by splendid achievements on a 100-mile battle front during the past week, affording ample proof that with the best support Russia oan give her she is able to inflict the most crushing defeat on the enemy. The Pope has made peace proposals which are acceptable to the Central Powers, but there is no disposition on the part of the Allies to listen to peace proposals from any quarter. The war is certain to go on until the triumph of the Allies' arms is complete. The terms of peace will be announcad and fiually settled when the Allied armies reach Berlin, where the Allied governments are determined that they shall go however long it may take them to get there. Acceptance of the Pope's proposals would mean viotory for the diabolical Hun 6, which can never be so loDg as the Allies have any men left to fight for their righteous cause.
