PERSONAL.

Messrs Matthew and Thomas Fitzpatrick, sons of Mrs Fitzpatrick, of Speargrass Flat, have enlisted. Mr R. H. Todd, who has been manager of the Lake County Dairy Factory for the past two seasons, has resigned, and will be leaving the district at an early date. Sergt. Bingham, who has for some months been stationed at Clyde in charge of the local police district, died suddenly on Thursday evening last. Captain J. W. H. Bannerman, editor and manager of the Bluff Press, and for years a leading Southland cricketer, footballer, and hookeyist, has enlisted, and expects to be called up at an early date. Mr John Hodson, manager of the Gibbston coalpit, recently met with an accident while working in the mine (writes our Gibbston correspondent). He was caught by a small fall of coal, and sustained rather severe injuries to the leg. Mr Hodson will be incapacitated for some time, and in the meantime there is practically a coal famine in the district. Mrs J. T. Barty, who is leaving the district to reside in Dunedin, was made the recipient of a presentation on Monday test by the members of the Arrow Patriotic Concert Party. As president of the organisation Mrs Barty did an immense amount of work in connection with the two successful entertainments recently held in Arrow, and in order to show their appreciation of her efforts the members of the Concert Party presented her with a handsome silver card case. The presentation was made by Miss Jopp, and the recipient feelingly returned thanks. Mr and Mrs J. T. Barty left Arrowtown yesterday for Dunedin, where they will in future reside. Although Mr Barty resided in the district for a comparatively shore period, he took an active part in the management of local organisations. He was one of the promoters of the Arrow Literary and Debating Society, a member of the School Committee, and also an enthusiastic worker in the interests of the local patriotic movements. Mrs Barty was also prominent in patriotic matters, and her services were always at the disposal of promoters of local concerts and entertainments.
