THOU ALSO. Why do you shirk from vour duty, lad? Why don’t you fight t'or the Right? Why don’t you fight for your King and Land ? They want you, and you might. Y'our Country has called in its hour of need For strong young chaps like you. To fight for the Right and the Motherland ; Enlist to-day, lad—do. You’ve heard how our brave lads fought, and died, For Freedom, Truth, and Right. And you’ve read how mothers were torn from their babes. And of poor Belgium’s plight. You’ve heard of tho “scrap of paper,” lad, And you know we’re pledged to de- ' fend JBrave Belgium’s land from Honour’s V f°e, So we fight for a glorious end.
Hut the toll of war is mounting high, And your Country calls for men, If chaps like you don't fill tho Raps, What then, I ask, what then? Our native land in bondage tied, Our name crushed in the dust, Our freedom gone, a race no more! We must win my lad, we must. Would you not save your land from shamo ? Would you not 'fend your King? Would you not die for your Motherland; Victorious peace to bring? Oh, how can you stay at home, my lad, While your fellows die for the Right? 'List to-day and fight for your Homes and King, They need you. and—you might. Bertie C. Jack.
