LAKE COUNTY MINERS' ASSOCIATION.
Annual Meeting. The annual meeting of members of the Lake County Miners' Association was held in the Press office on Saturday evening; present—Messrs G. H. Romans (chairman), R. M. Paterson, T. Connor, Leo Lee, W. F. Stevenson A. Goodlev, G. C. Edie. Jas. O'Neill, D. Macleod, K. McLeay. G. D. Baird, W. MoLaren, D. Scurr, aud F. F. Danlop (secretary). —Explanatory.— The Chairman said that as no meetings of the Association had been held for the past two years it had not been deemad necessary by the retiring committee to present a report. He thought, however, that the time had arrived for the residents of Lake County to bestir themselves and endeavor to revive interest in the development of the mineral resources of the district. The Miners' Association had done good work in that direction in the past, and they had always received very fair treatment from the Mines Department. A request to the Government for assistance, if approved by the Miners' Association, would undoubtedly have a greater chance of being successful than if made by a company or a private individual, and he hoped those interested in mining in all parts of the county would recognise that and become members of the Association. —Eleotion of Officers.— The following were elected officers for the ensuing ye«:— President, Mr G. H. Romaus; secretary, Mr F. F. Dunlop ; general committee—Messrs R. M. Paterson, L. Lee, T. Connor, W. Stevenson, A. Goodley, Jaa. O'Neill, G. C Edie, D. Macleod, W. Reid, G. D. Bnird, A. Hamilton, W. McLaren, and K. McLeay (Arrow), P. T. Lynch and D. Ward (Skippers), Geo. Rsid (Head of Lake), A. Lafranohi (Cardrona), A. McCaughan (Garston), T. Reid and \V. Anderson (Macetown). In returning thanks for his re-election as President of the Association, Mr Romans said he highly appreciated the honor tint had been conferred upon him. He had been more o." leis connected with mining in the district for upwards of 40 years and he had always taken a keen interest in the industry. During his term of office he would do all in his power to further the interests of the Association (Applause). —An Important Proposal.— The Chairman drew attention to the faot that Mr Morgan. Director of the Geological Department, had recently paid a visit of inspection to the Waikaia district and would shortly furnish the Government with a report as to the possibilities of tbat district for further developments in mining. Mr Romans suggested that the Minister for Mines should be asked to send Mr Morgan to visit the Lakes District on a similar mission. He would move—That this Association respectfully requests the Minister for Mines to instruct Mr Morgan, Director of the Geological Dapartment, to pay a visit to Lake County with a view to furnishing a report as to the possibilities of the district for further development in mining. The motion was seconded by Mr Baird and carried unanimously. —General.— On the motion of Mr Paterson the annual subscription was fixed at five shillings, and it was decided not to collect subscriptions owing f >r last year. Messrs Leo Lee, G. Kdie, and J. Radford ware ehctsd members of tbe Association. The secretary's honorarium for the ensuing year was fixed at £0 Gs. Mr Baird said he hoped the Press would give publicity to tbe fact that specimens of minerals for assay could be forwarded to the Geological Department through the Miners' Association. He thought that if this were more widely known many specimens of stone from various reefs in the district would be in for assay. This concluded the business, and the meeting closed with the usual compliment to the chair.
