LAKE COUNTY COUNCIL.

A moetiiig of tho Lake County Council was hold in the Council Chambers, Queenstown, yesterday. Present—The Chairman, Crs MoCaughan, McKibbin, McMullan, Cockbnm, Baird and Collins. Cr MoCaughan thanked the Council for their kind expressions of sympathy in his late illness. Cr Birley wrote asking for leave of absence, and that if plans had come for the Routeburn bridge that tenders be called for next meeting. Cr McDougall also wrote for leave of absence, and asked that tenders for now bridge at Pembroke bo held over until next meeting, as notice of tender had only been put up :> days; also that his notice of motion re new steamer bo held over till next meeting. Leave of absence was granted to both councillors. The Clerk stilted that the plans for the Routeburn bridge had not yet arrived. Tenders for tho no.v bridge at Pembroke had boon advertised for three weeks, and if notice had not been put up at Pembroke tho fault did not lie with them. Cr McDougall's notice of motion ro new steamer was again held over. Tho following tenders were dealt with: — Contract 38'.) "(gravelling at Urquhart's, Lake Hayes), T. Johnson, 1"! 15s per chain ; D. Mackie, W 2s Gd (accept d). No. 381 (widening at Pleasant Creek), H. J, 11, Lewis, £(io 5s (accepted); E. Sainsbury, £O9 10s. No. 388 (new wharf at Pembroke), only one tender, and it was considered too hio-h. Fresh tenders to be called for next meeting. No. 399 (supply of ti horos and man for grader per day), T. Johnson £2; D. Mackie, £1 i4s (accepted). Full report next week.
