MINING NEWS.

Several hands are now employed at the Macatown Mines. The battery at the Homeward has been working steadily and well for some time, treating 60 tons a week. There will bo a wash-up this week, which it is thought will be highly satisfactory. The reef in the face at the Homeward is 6ft flin wide carrying gold. This is very satisfactory as it shows every sign of permanency. Work has also been resumed in the Garibaldi reef. Mr L. 0. Beal, managing engineer for the Company, is at present in Macetown. Tho Shamrock Company, Arrow Elver, is busily engaged sluicing, and will wash-up early. The Arrew Falls Company is at present erecting a winch to be used in working the stone lifter. A paddock is being taken out at the month of the Billy, but as heavy stones are being met with it has been found necessary to use the lift. The race has just been ropaiiod, and sluicing will be resumed immediately tho lifter is ready. The pipes for tho Arrow Flat Claim will bo on the ground at an early date. When they arrive little time will be lost in getting tho plant and pipes in position. The Manager, Mr R. Mclntosh, is expected in Arrowtown towards tho oud of the week. Tho quartz reefs on tho Garrick range are receiving more attention now than has been the case for years past. At tho summit of tho hill Messrs Evans and party aro reported to have struck a highly payable reef. Tho Garrick Company are pushing on tho work of excavation for tho battery and cyuido plant which is expected to arrive early in tho Now Year. Dredging returns: Rise and Shine No. 1. 81 oz; Rising Sun, flOoz ; Rise and Shine No. 2, 51oz ; Golden Bod, 420z; Karaunui. 40oz; Sandy Point, liOoz ; Waikaka United No. I, 270z; Koputai, 26ez.
