Fruit and Produce Report.

Report supplied by Messrs T. E. Shiel and Co. for week ending 19th Oct., 1910: — Potatoes.—Light shipping demand. We quote—Primest table up-to-dates, in new sacks, £7 15s to £8 ; Derwents up to £8 ; medium table up to £G 5s per ton. Seed Potatoes—Better demand. Up-to-dates £4 los to £5 7s GJ; British Queens L 7 10s, Northern Stars up to L 7 ss; Sutton’s Abundance L 5 10s, Ashleaf Kidneys Lo 10s, White Elephant to Lo 10s ; Sutton’s Seedling £7. These prices are for properly selected potatoes, about the size of an ordinary hen’s egg, in good new sacks. We can quote good second - hand sacks, suitable for potatoes, grain, or chaff, at 5/G per dozen; 1001b centals 3/- per dozen.

Chaff.—The absence of any shipping demand is causing market to be dull. We quote : Extra heavy black oat sheaf £4 ; white oat, £3 12s Gd to £3 15s (sacks extra). We supply chaff sacks on application. Straw chaff, 40s to 45s per ton. Hay. —New season’s baled, slow sale, 55s to G?s Gd per ton. Straw—Very slow of sale. Pressed oaten, 35s per ton, wheaten 25s ton. Wheat. Millers have all their present requirements, and are not operating at present. We quote : Prime milling lines of velvet at 3s 6d to 3s 9d, medium milling 3s 3d to 3s 5d on trucks country sidings, fowl wheat (good bright plump stuff) to 3/3, smutted 2/G to 2/7, broken and damaged 2/5 to 2/8 (sacks extra). Oats.—Very slight shipping enquiry. The local demand is also very poor. There is good demand for seed Duns. We quote—Duns 2s to 2s Id, Gartons Is lOd to Is lid, Danish, blacks, sparrowbills, Is lOid to Is lid, Barley. —Good demand for feed barley—worth 2s to 2s 4d, sacks extra; milling samples 3s to 3s CJ per bushel. We advise consignments of good plump barley. Eggs.— lO.fjd ; guaranteed stamped lid. Butter—We" quote —Storekeeper’s pats IOAd per lb; separator pounds half pounds ll|d ; local factory, sGlb boxes Is O : Jd, 281b boxes Is OJd, 14lb boxes IsOfd, cases Is extra; print Gutter, 501b iu case, IsOfd; bulk butter—wo have numerous enquiries for farmers or storekeepers’ bulk in sGlb boxes -9d to lOd per lb. Honey—Fair demand. Prime clover toSAd lb; Sib tins Is 8d to Is 9d; 101b tins 3s 3d to 3s Gd.

Bacon—Fair demand. Prime smoked rolls 7d to per lb ; sides 7d. Pigs—Bacon weights up to IGO’s 4d to 4Ad, porkers up to 4^d. Cheese—We have some excellent lines of well matured Akaroa factory 5Jd, old loaf, 24 months matured ssd per lb. Onions. Victorian £7 10s per ton—very prime quality, advise buying. Fruit.—The market has been well supplied this week.

Vegetables are very scarce, and the bulk of supplies are arriving weekly from Victoria. Oranges.—Tahiti (9-inch cases) to 13s repacks, Sydney’s 7s 9d to Bs. Mildura 8s Gd per case. Marmalade oranges Poorman’s 4s Gd, Sevilles 4s Gd.

Mildura lemons, 7s Gd per case. Apples—Choice large green cookers 2d lb; dessert local 8/- per 381b case ; Hobart sturraers 7/G, scarlets 9/-. finest quality 421b per case.

Pines—Ordinary roughs 9s ; Queens, 10s double cases.

Bananas. Scarce. Eipe per lb. Citron melons for jam, 7s per cwt. Vegetable marrows 7s per sack. Pumpkins 4/G to 5s (id per sack. Dates.—Bulk 17s per cwt; lb cartons 3s 3d per dozen. Cauliflowers—Extra large whiteheads 5/9 to 6/6 per sack ; cabbages 5s to 5s Gd per sack. Walnuts—New season’s 6d to 7d. Kop’s Non-alcholic Ale—Split bottles Is (id dozen, pints 2s Gd, quarts Is, in case lots. Poultry.—Consignments have been plentiful, We quote cock turkeys 8d to BAd, hens Old to 7d per lb; ducks, plump condition, 3/9 to 4/6, roosters (young) 4/6 to 5/-, poor quality 3/- to 3/0, hens 3/- to 3/6 per pair. Wo receive consignments of garden and farm produce of every description every day for sale; prompt account sales and cheque with highest market prices guaranteed. Correspondence solicited.
