MINING.

Two shifts are being worked at the Arrow River Company’s claim. The manager, Mr Ramsay, hopes to have the electric plant on at an early date, and this will permit of three shifts being worked. Wo understand that (hero will be a washup i Ins week. . :) lhl V i:l1 ,n j" i »S ••it Bracken’s Cully is in iiul swing. The miners have a full supply of water, and they expect to have a good run this season.

Wo fully expect to see this spring a ravital of quartz-reefing in the Macetovru and Skippers districts, fr. other parts of the Dominion more attention is being paid to quartz-mining,and prospecting for lodes, particularly in the North, is the general order of things. The Likes District, as we have previously stated, is yet in its infancy as far as quartz-reeling is concerned, and there are many reefs wcllworth developing. Moth at supper-, and

Macotown payable stone lias been got practically cm the surface, but the cost of proper development is a barrier to the average miner.. Wo would suggest that a number of miners club together and thoroughly prospect some of the known reefs. They will no doubt receive the full support of the Miners’ Association in their application to Government for subsidy, should the Association be satisliod the application for assistance is genuine and worthy of recommendation. We congratulate Messrs Lafranchi Bros, on their enterprise in purchasing the Tuohy’a Creek dredge, Cardrona. They have the dredge afloat again, and are at present repairing the ladder. They hope to have the dredge in thorough working order in about a month. The Lone Star dredge has been working steadily for about a month, and as she was thoroughly overhauled during the winter, few, if any, stoppages are anticipated this season. The Crilfel Face Company made a start for the season on Monday with a full supply of water. Mr McGregor, manager of the company recently formed in Dunedin to work by hydraulic a claim in Branch Creek, Cardrona, is expected in Cardrona this week. We understand that on his return, Mr McGregor, intends putting on men to clean out and extend a race from the Cardrona river to the claim.

The Lone Star Company is having Mr Walter Little’s race cleaned out with tho object of working ground at Boundary Creek, Cardrona, by hydraulic pressure. The plant is already on the ground. The Waitiri dredge has been leased by a party of six, three local residents and three Cromwell. They purpose working ground below tho Gentle Annie Creek before shifting up the river.
