ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting was held on Tuesday evening last and attended by His Worship the Mayor (H. McKibbin, Esq.), and Grs McDonnell, Romans, Simmonds, Stephenson, Jenkins, Richardson, and McSkimming. A letter was received from the Railway Department saying that the expense of running a daily train to Kingston in the winter would be far in excess of the earnings of the line.—Received.

Clerk, Lake County Council wrote saying the Recreation Reserve was valued at £'lo, and a rate had to be charged on it. The rate had been paid in former years. On the motion of Crs Richardson and Simmonds it was decided to make enquiries as to whether the Council were compelled to pay rates on the Recreation Reserve. Reid and McDowell drew attention to a gorse hedge in Kent Street, should the hedge catch fire it would endanger their buildings. Writers asked that it be removed.

The Mayor said the owner of the property —Mr Butler had been written to requesting him to trim the hedge, but no steps been taken. On the motion of Crs Romans and Richardson it was decided to give Mr Butler final notice to remove the hedge. At the request of the County solicitor, the Council passed a resolution in connection with its contribution towards the cost of the new bridge over the Shofcover River.

It was decided to accept the offer of John McCulloch to rent a borough house and ground at 6s a week. In reply to Cr Stephenson the Mayor said no word had been received yet as to what body was responsible for the up-keep of the road leading to Tobin’s track. On the motion of Crs Romans and Simmonds it was decided to write, and thank Mrs Wesley Turton for a donation of a parcel of books and Mr Baird for bringing the books from Dunedin.

Accounts to the amount of £3O 2a lOd were passed for payment leaving a credit balance at Bank of £lB 8s 7d. Or Richardson said the picket fence at the top end of the street was dangerous and required repairing, and it was decided that the Works Committee report on it. This concluded the business.
