ARROW BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting was held on Tuesday evening last, and attended by His Worship the Mayor, and Cra Jenkins, Romans, Pritchard, Simmonds, Richardson, and M'Skimming. The defaulters' lists were read, and the Mayor moved—That a final notice be given to ratepayers owing rates ; that all defaulters on the 15th May be sued for the recovery of rates.—Seconded by Cr Simmonds, and carried. Cr Romans proposed—That the various Borough Councils interested be written to asking their co-operation in the effort to get the daily train services continued throughout the year.—Soconded by Cr Simmonds, and carried. S. A. Hadley wrote resigning office _ of councillor, as he was leaving the district. —Accepted with regret. Joseph Jenkins wrote applying for a renewal of his slaughtering license.—Recommended to the Department. The Secretary Land Board, Dunedin, wrote re Mr M'Donnell's lease over mining reserve. The Board had decided to renew the license. A condition of renewal was that in any future fencing Mr M'Donnell excludes the areas now occupied by several of the petitioners who objected to the license being renewed. —Received. Accounts to the amount of £22 7s 3d were passed for payment, leaving a debit at Bank of £132 9s 6d. It was decided to call tenders for leasing the gravel reserve in the Arrow Ex« tension. It was decided to ask Dr Thomson and Cr Romans to select new books for the Atheneum to the amount of the Government grant. The Mayor said he thought that the Borough should have a flag for the town hall. The Council decided to purchase one. Cr Pritchard suggested that part of the road from the town to the hospital be gravelled before winter. Left in the hands of the Works Committee. Five applications were received for the position of town clerk, and Miss H. Graham was appointed to the position. This concluded the business.
