Miller, Minister for Labor and Marino, died at Roslyn (Dunedin) on Wednesday, 14 th November. Mu 11. CL Youugman, our local postmaster, ia at present on holidays. Mr Mulvey, of the Invercargill office, is in charge during Mr Youngman’s absence. The trial of John Findlay, charged with the Papakaio murder, has been adjourned to December 7, on account of the illness of some Crown witnesses. At the inquest on Messrs Fred Anderson and Wm. Leo, who met their deaths in the Kaitangata mine on the Bth hist., a verdict was returned that the deceased wore accidentally asphyxiated no blame being attachable to anyone. Typewriters are now in use everywhere and the moderate cost of the BHck brings it within the reach of every business man. The Blick is a far-famed machine, and in Otago alone ! the sales of this typewriter are enormous. The Blick can be seen at work at this office. A cricket match between the Skippers and Arrow Clubs will bo played at Arrow on Saturday next. The game starts 11 a.m. The Arrow team will he as follows Anderson (2), Fletcher, Illingworth, Jas. Paterson and Son, of Ayrburn, purchased at the Canterbury Show, two Border Leicester ram hoggot;! at 40 guineas each. • While in Christchurch Messrs John Kano (Luggate) and J. J. Mcßride (Fraukton) purchased two thoroughbred yearling colts. No matter the lino, importations of pedigree stock into a district always bear fruitful results. Professor Park, of the Otago University, is at present in Cromwell, and is making a geological survey of the district. Ho is also reporting on the area of the cOnl-fields, the possibilities of alluvial deep leads, the prospects of roofing, and also the finding of any other minerals. The Professor will be assisted by three graduate students of the Otago Mining School. The work is expected to extend over some months. —Argiyr. At the recent Show in Christchurch, in merino shcop, Mr R. Turnbull, of Wanaka and J.inburn Stations, had nine entries, and secured a champion, reserve champion, and second and third prize, also three very highly commended, which is practically a third prize. When it is considered that the entries of sheep at this show includes the very best from all parts of New Zealand, and this year it was exceptionally fine entry for sheep, Mr Turnbull must be very pleased at the result. 'The two rams that secured the championships wore very much admired, and they wore bred by Mr Turnbull at his Liuburn Station, which has been noted lor the high-class of merino wool for many years.
