A MISTAKEN COMPLIMENT.
A young lady in u large Texas town, who lias quite a local reputation as a pianist, consented to give a selection at a church .social. However, on the eventful evening when tlii' time came for her number, the chatting and hubbub which is usual on such occasions did not ccasi — even after she had seated herself at the piano. She was a trifle embarrassed, but determined to play, believing that the talking would subside after the first ii'W notes. Hut such was not the case, and she was Hearing the end of her piece when three ladies came over and stood by the piano. "Isn't lhat beautiful?" exclaimed one of them. "Perfectly lovely !" wus the reresponse. "And just think of the work !" came from the third lad\ . The girl was flattered at having at last gained the attention of three of her audience, but imagine her chagrin when the first lady picked up the edge the Llallcnburg piano cover, remarking: "It must have taken two months just to make this border."
