MINING
The Eureka mining plant and claim at Skippers was sold by auction at the Arrow Courthouse on Monday last. Mr P. de la Perrello was the purchaser at £5. The company recently formed in Dunedin by Messrs Sligo Bros., to purchase the Premier Sunrise Coy's plant intend erecting a hydraulic plant at the head of Sawyer's Gully, Macetown, and working the ground in the vicinity of the old company's property. Hydraulicing will be commenced almost immediately under tho management of Mr A. Partridge. The Lone Star dredge and Mr Littlo's hydraulic plant, both in the Oardrona Valley, havocommenced opoiations for tho season. The Twohy's creek dredge will also start in a few days. The Criffol Load Company are getting everything in readiness for a start, and wo understand that the manager, Mr McGregor, will commence sluicing at an early date. The company should have a good run this season. The syndicate formed some time ago ic Arrowtown to work what is known as the Lucknow reef at Crown Terrace has had a tunnel driven in a distance of about 120 feet. Payablo stone has been met with in the drive, but its extent is not yet known. As tho funds of tho syndicate are about exhausted, tho members intend increasing their capital to thoroughly test, tho reef. Present indications aro most encouraging. Tho members of the syndicate are to bo commonded for their enterprise. Forty tons of wolfram, a mineral for which tho demand is i:\cioasing, has been swld in Queensland recently for £IUO per ton, to a German buyor. The gold unearthod by a laborer while digging a drain was valued for 3s ; not as much as tho cost of tho cahlo which announced the " discovery" in hot haste.

The following items are from tho Now Zealand Times :—During the year 1905 22 coal mining companies put out more than 10,000 tons of coal. The output ranged from 10,871 tons up to 500,231 tons, the latter boing the limit reached by
the Westport Coal Company. The State mino at Port Elizabeth put ou*- 131,810, the New Zealand Coal and Oil Company (Kaitangata) 119,744 tons and the Taupiii Company 118,612 tons. During the present year the Geological Survey will continue its researches in the Parapara district (Nelson) Cromwell (Ofctigo), Mikonui (North Westland), and Coromandel. A reconnaisanco survey will also be made in Southland.—Messrs Donaldson Bros., the pioneers in mining and concentrating scheolite, have exported £24,000 worth of the mineral from thoii property at Macraes, Central Otago. The ttingsfcic aoids which the mineral contains are valuable for hardoning steel plates and big guns. Sheolito is also mined in Top Valloy Marlborough.—During the coming season mining will be resumed by a number of persons who have taken up claims ou the Wilberforce River in Westland."
