THE PREMIER.

The Premier was entertained at a very large gathering in Wellington on Saturday evening, the Liberal party being desirous of honoring him on the completion of his tenth year as Premier. Mr H. Quick, Senior Barrister of the Colony, presided. A motion was proposed and enthusiastically carried, congratulating Mr Saddon on tho conclusion of bis tenth year as Premier and an andress was presented. Mr Seddon in reply read a congratulatory cable message from MV Chamberlain, and also one from tho Premier of New South Wales. Dealing with finance, he announced that the surplus for the year would be £333,539, and he believed there would be a surplus next year also.
